We are delighted to announce that two members of Security and Safety’s editorial board and a guest editor of the “Unmanned Systems” special issue have recently been selected as IEEE Fellows, the highest ranking member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, the international society for engineers in electronics and information science.
Youmin Zhang (Associate Editor and Guest Editor of the “Unmanned Systems” special issue), Qian Wang (Associate Editor) and Hong Chen (also a Guest Editor of the “Unmanned Systems” special issue) are among IEEE Newly Elevated Fellows for 2023. Professor Zhang has earned the honour “for contributions to fault diagnosis and fault-tolerant control systems”. IEEE has selected Professor Wang “for contributions to secure cloud data storage and wireless system security”. Professor Chen has been elevated “for contributions to predictive control and applications in automotive systems”.
IEEE is the world's largest technical professional organization dedicated to “advancing technology for the benefit of humanity”. To be elected, a person must have made a significant contribution to the advancement or application of engineering science and technology and bring significant value to society. As the number of IEEE Fellows elected each year is relatively small - no more than 0.1% of the total IEEE membership - the scientists elected are essentially distinguished scientists who have made significant achievements in the fields of science and engineering technology.
At the time the nomination is submitted, a nominee must:
- Have accomplishments that have contributed importantly to the advancement or application of engineering, science and technology, bringing the realization of significant value to society
- Hold IEEE Senior member or IEEE Life Senior member grade
- Have been a member in good standing and completed a minimum of five full years (consecutive or not) of IEEE membership
Youmin Zhang is currently a Professor at the Department of Mechanical, Industrial and Aerospace Engineering and the Concordia Institute of Aerospace Design and Innovation (CIADI) at Concordia University, Montreal, Canada. He has authored eight books and articles in over 550 journals. More information.
Qian Wang is a Professor in the School of Cyber Science and Engineering at Wuhan University, China. He is listed among the World's Top 2% of Scientists by Stanford University. He received the 2018 IEEE TCSC Award for Excellence in Scalable Computing (early career researcher) and the 2016 IEEE ComSoc Asia-Pacific Outstanding Young Researcher Award. He has published 200+ papers, with 120+ publications in top-tier international conferences. More information.
Hong Chen currently works at Tongji University, Shanghai, China, as a Distinguished Professor. From 2015 to 2019, she served as the Director of the State Key Laboratory of Automotive Simulation and Control, Jilin University. Her current research interests include model predictive control, nonlinear control, and applications in mechatronic systems focusing on automotive systems. More information.
We are happy to have such brilliant scientists in our editorial team and congratulate them on their awards. We look forward to celebrating their future successes, which, in turn, will contribute to the development of Security and Safety.
